A Blog Etiquette Question For You...

I have been pondering this question in my head for months now and I don't know what to do so I just figured I'd ask all of you fellow bloggers for help!

Waaaay back in September, I won a giveaway from a blogger. Well, it's the middle of January, and that giveaway never came. She has my address, because she asked for it in an e-mail. She has never contacted me to say "sorry, it's delayed" or "my husband lost his job and I can't afford it anymore" or anything like that.

She has two boys and of course as a mom now I understand how things can get pushed to the back burner and totally forgotten about with kids in your house. But at the same time, I feel like it's okay to hold her to what she promised. I mean, isn't there something to be said for blogging with integrity? I was a follower of hers long before I won the giveaway, and every time I read her posts now I almost feel like I can't trust her 100%!

So here's my question: Do I let it go, and she therefore is not held to what she "promised", or do I gently bring it up and risk sounding snotty for asking for my free gift? lol

I really want your honest opinion - I told you, I really don't know what to do!

  1. That is a tough one! I would almost say it has been too long now to go back and ask her about it.

What is funny is she may have totally sent it to you and it got lost in the mail. What if she is sitting around waiting for you to say thank you while you are waiting for the giveaway loot?!? :)

On the other hand if it was something you were really excited to win then I say go ahead and ask her. What is there to lose?

Good luck. Let us know what you decide on!

  2. You don't know me, so there is no reason why you should listen to me, but here's what I think since you asked. :-) Write and let her know (very nicely) that you never received the prize. Rather than writing it with the assumption that she's holding out on you or didn't send it on purpose, express concern that it was lost in the mail or assume that she shipped it (or at least thought that she shipped it). You might be surprised. Always assume the best of people and they will respond in kind. That's my two cents worth anyway. :-)

  3. I would write to her and nicely remind her that she must have forgotten. I forget things ALL the time and if I promised something to someone I would want them to remind me and I would also feel terrible if I forgot and they never reminded me.

  4. I would definitely contact her. You can bring it up without being mean or accusing or anything remotely negative. I would just say something about being excited about said prize and was curious when it was coming. Give her your contact info again just in case she misplaced it. And say something about the holidays being a busy time of year and hope to see the prize soon. Thank her for her generosity and voila. You've done your part in a nice way.
